Built in the real world

VIP's team works across the full lifecycle of sports streaming products — product design, mobile apps, connected TV, streaming operations, content workflows, monetization, and distribution. This page describes the categories of work we do and the experience behind it.

Live Sports Streaming

Live sports streaming is the most technically demanding form of video delivery. A single dropped frame during a game-winning play is noticed immediately. A buffering event during a timeout is tolerated. The difference between those two outcomes is the quality of the infrastructure, the encoding pipeline, and the delivery architecture.

VIP's team has designed and operated live sports streaming infrastructure for rights holders across college sports, professional leagues, and regional sports networks. This work includes stream ingest and encoding configuration, CDN selection and failover architecture, latency management, and the monitoring systems needed to detect and respond to delivery problems in real time.

Recent work includes a conference streaming deployment covering multiple sports across a full academic year, and a regional sports network migration from traditional broadcast delivery to a direct-to-consumer streaming model.

Mobile Applications

Mobile is where most sports fans first encounter a streaming product. The mobile app is the front door — and the first impression it creates determines whether a fan becomes a regular viewer or abandons the product after the first session.

VIP's mobile work covers the full product lifecycle: requirements definition, UX design, iOS and Android development, authentication integration, content delivery, advertising integration, analytics, and app-store submission. We have submitted apps to both the Apple App Store and Google Play, navigated review processes, and managed the operational complexity of maintaining apps across multiple OS versions and device generations.

Our mobile work includes direct-to-consumer sports streaming apps for college athletic programs, conference networks, and professional sports organizations.

Connected TV

Connected TV is where sports fans watch the games that matter most. The living-room television is the primary screen for live sports, and the connected TV app is the product that determines whether a fan watches on the platform or finds another way to watch.

VIP's connected TV work covers Android TV, Google TV, Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, and Samsung Tizen. Each platform has its own development environment, its own submission process, and its own design constraints. We have built and launched connected TV apps across all of these platforms, and we understand the differences between them.

Connected TV work includes 10-foot UI design, remote control navigation, device activation flows, live tile implementation, and the performance optimization required to deliver a smooth experience on inexpensive consumer streaming hardware.

Content Operations

Content operations is the discipline that keeps a streaming product running after launch. It includes the workflows for ingesting live events, managing metadata, scheduling content, processing replays, and maintaining the content catalog.

VIP's content operations experience spans live event workflows, metadata management systems, replay processing pipelines, and the organizational processes needed to keep a content catalog accurate and current across a full sports season.

A recent sports-platform launch involved designing the content operations workflow from scratch — including the metadata entry process, the artwork production pipeline, the replay processing workflow, and the monitoring systems needed to catch problems before viewers do.

Monetization

Monetization in sports streaming takes multiple forms: subscription revenue, advertising revenue, pay-per-view, and hybrid models that combine elements of each. The right model depends on the rights holder's audience, content, and business objectives.

VIP's monetization work includes advertising integration (server-side ad insertion, programmatic advertising, direct sales support), subscription platform implementation, and the analytics infrastructure needed to understand and optimize revenue performance.

We have worked with rights holders to design monetization models, implement the technical infrastructure to support them, and build the reporting systems needed to understand what is working.

App-Store Distribution

Getting a sports streaming app into app stores is a process with specific requirements, specific timelines, and specific failure modes. VIP has navigated this process across Apple App Store, Google Play, Roku Channel Store, Amazon Appstore, and other platforms.

Our app-store distribution work includes submission preparation, review process management, rejection response, and the ongoing maintenance required to keep apps compliant with evolving platform policies.

We have developed internal checklists and processes for pre-submission review that significantly reduce the likelihood of rejection — and reduce the time between submission and approval when rejections do occur.
